Apples are a nutritious and gentle fruit that many of us enjoy. I personally love eating apples, but in my family, they don’t always reach for them on their own — perhaps because peeling and cutting them feels like a bit of work.😅 That’s why I often make apple compote, turning apples into an easy, comforting dessert that everyone is happy to eat. In France, apple compote is a classic home-style treat, enjoyed both as a simple snack and as a light dessert. I prepare it in the same French way, keeping it simple and naturally flavorful. It can be enjoyed warm, which makes it especially comforting when you’re feeling under the weather, or served chilled as a refreshing, light dessert after a rich meal.✨

2/ Add all ingredients to the pot: Place all of the following ingredients into a pot.
There is no need to stir — they will come together naturally as they cook.

3/ Simmer over medium to low heat: Place the pot over medium heat.
Once it begins to gently bubble, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes.

4/ Adjust the texture to your liking: Mash the apples using a potato masher or a similar tool.
I prefer to leave some texture to enjoy the apple pieces, but for a smoother consistency, blend with a hand blender.

5/ Enjoy warm or chilled: This apple compote is delicious served warm or chilled.

If serving chilled, let the compote cool completely, then spoon it into a glass.
Top with Greek yogurt, add a small amount of compote on top, and finish with a sprinkle of cinnamon if you like.

🌟 Tips for Everyday Enjoyment 🌟

⭐️ Lemon: for color and balance: Lemon juice not only helps prevent the apples from browning, but also adds a gentle brightness that balances the natural sweetness of the fruit.🍋Feel free to adjust the amount to your taste if you prefer a fresher, lighter finish.

⭐️ Make-ahead and storage: This apple compote is perfect for making ahead. It keeps well in the refrigerator for about 3 days, and can be frozen for up to 1 month.
Making a slightly larger batch makes it easy to enjoy for breakfast or as a quick dessert anytime.

⭐️ Two easy ways to enjoy it: On everyday days, simply serve the compote in a small cocotte and enjoy it as it is. Because it can be eaten warm, it’s especially comforting and easy to enjoy, even when you’re not feeling well, and gentle enough for children, too.😊

For a more dessert-like version, pair the compote with Greek yogurt and serve it in a glass.
When chilled, this combination is especially delicious. Try mixing the yogurt and compote little by little with your spoon — the flavor is surprisingly good.❤️

Whether as a simple snack or a slightly special dessert, this flexibility is part of what makes apple compote so appealing.
