For dough:
Ingredients:
1/ Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, combine all the dough ingredients and knead well until smooth. Cover with a kitchen towel and let the dough rest for 15 minutes.

2/ Mix the Sauce: In a separate bowl, mix the crème fraîche with nutmeg and pepper until well combined.

3/ Prepare the Toppings: Cut the bacon (pre-cut bacon is used in this recipe). Thinly slice the onion and finely chop the chives (or substitute with green onions).
4/ Roll Out the Dough: Place a sheet of parchment paper on your work surface and lightly dust it with flour (not listed in the ingredients). Roll out the dough, then transfer it onto a baking sheet.

5/ Assemble the Flammkuchen: Spread the crème fraîche mixture evenly over the dough. Top with sliced onions and bacon.

6/ Bake: Place the baking sheet in a preheated oven at 210°C (410°F) and bake for about 20 minutes, or until crispy.
7/ Garnish and Serve: Finish by sprinkling with chopped chives and a little extra pepper before serving.

🌟Flammkuchen Tips and Variations🌟
⭐️ Substitute for Crème Fraîche: If you have trouble finding crème fraîche (crème épaisse), you can use sour cream instead. If you prefer a milder, less tangy taste, cottage cheese or cream cheese can also work as alternatives.
⭐️ How to Make the Dough Softer: For a slightly softer and lighter crust, try adding a tablespoon of olive oil to the dough, or replace a portion of the flour with cake flour. You can also slightly increase the water amount to achieve a less firm texture.
⭐️ Chive Substitutes: Chives are a herb from the Liliaceae family and are commonly used in German cooking. You can easily substitute them with green onions or spring onions. Sprinkling some parsley on top is also a nice option.
⭐️ Enjoy Flavor Variations: Feel free to get creative and try different toppings with your favorite ingredients for a variety of flavors!
⭐️Where You Often See Flammkuchen: You’ll often find Flammkuchen in restaurants, cafés, and even supermarket refrigerated sections in Germany and France. It’s a popular choice for casual meals, beer gardens, or quick dinners at home.
