For 4 people
1/ Prepare the Pie Plate: Grease a 26 cm pie plate with butter.
2/ Place the Pie Dough: Place the puff pastry sheet on the pie plate and gently press it into place. Poke holes in several spots with a fork to prevent bubbling.
3/ Cook the Bacon: Place the bacon (lardon) in a frying pan and cook over medium heat until slightly crispy. No additional oil is needed. Once cooked, transfer the bacon to a plate.
4/ Sauté the Spinach: In the same pan, add a little olive oil and sauté the spinach until wilted.
5/ Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, beat the eggs. Add the crème fraîche and mix well until smooth.
6/ Combine the Fillings: Add the cooked bacon, spinach, shredded cheese, and pepper to the egg mixture. Mix gently to combine. (Since bacon is salty, there’s usually no need to add salt, but you can adjust the seasoning to your taste.)
7/ Bake the Quiche: Pour the mixture into the prepared pie crust. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the quiche is set and lightly golden.
🌟Recipe Tips and Variations🌟
⭐️Cheese Options:This recipe uses Emmental cheese, but you can substitute with Gruyère, pizza cheese, or any cheese you like.
⭐️Cream Alternatives:If you don’t have crème fraîche, you can use sour cream or fresh cream. For a lighter flavour, ricotta cheese is also a good option.
⭐️About the Bacon (Lardon):Lardon is a French-style bacon, cut into small batons and quite salty. In this recipe, I use German bacon, which has a similar shape and salty flavour.
⭐️Using Frozen Spinach:Frozen spinach is very convenient when you want to save time. Simply thaw and drain before using.
⭐️Baking Time:The baking time may vary slightly depending on your oven. Keep an eye on the quiche towards the end of baking.
🌿 Serving Suggestions🌿
Simple Salad: A fresh salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, and a light vinaigrette goes perfectly with the rich and creamy quiche. It adds color and freshness to the plate.
Fruit Salad: A small fruit salad can bring a refreshing sweetness, especially for brunch or lunch.
Soup (for colder days): In winter, pairing the quiche with a warm bowl of vegetable or tomato soup makes a cozy and satisfying meal.
Bread: A slice of crusty French bread or baguette is always a nice addition.
